Reconstruction of the
2014 Etchilhampton Hill formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Construct the inscribed equilateral triangle of circle 1, pointing down.

3. Construct the inscribed equilateral triangle of circle 1, pointing up.

4. Draw the connecting line between the righthand angular point of triangle 2 and the lefthand intersection of triangles 2 and 3.

5. Construct a circle centered at the intersection of the righthand side of triangle 3 and line 4, tangent to the upper side of triangle 2.

6. Copy circle 5 to the top of triangle 3.

7. Construct the circumscribed equilateral triangle, pointing down, of the circle concentric to circle 1, and tangent to circle 6 at the upper side.

8. Construct the circumscribed circle of triangle 7.

9. Copy circle 5 to the upper intersection of circle 8 and the vertical centerline.

10. Construct the circumscribed equilateral triangle, pointing down, of the circle concentric to circle 1, and tangent to circle 9 at the upper side.

11. Construct the circumscribed circle of triangle 10.

12. Copy circle 5 to the righthand intersection of circle 11 and the horizontal centerline. Move this circle (copy and delete original) to its own corresponding intersection. See detail.

13. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 12 at the righthand side.

14. Copy circle 5 to the intersection of the righthand side of triangle 10 and the horizontal centerline.

15. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 14 at the righthand side.

16. Draw three pairs of lines, each pair from a different angular point of triangle 10, to the midpoints of the two nearest sides of triangle 7, as shown.

17. Draw the connecting line between the righthand angular points of triangles 2 and 3.

18. Construct a circle centered at the intersection of line 17 and the horizontal centerline, tangent to cirle 1 at the near side.

19. Copy circle 18 seven times, to the center of circle 1, and to the intersections of circle 15 and lines 16.

20. Circles 1, 8, 11, 13 and 19, and triangles 2, 7 and 10, make up the final reconstruction.

21. Colour all areas corresponding to standing...

22. ...or to flattened crop, and finish the reconstruction of the 2014 Etchilhampton Hill formation.

23. The final result, matched with the aerial image.
