Reconstruction of the
2016 Willoughby Hedge formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Construct four inscribed pentagons (regular 5-sided polygons) of circle 1, one pointing up, one pointing down, one pointing to the left, and one pointing to the right.

3. Draw the twenty rays of pentagons 2, from the center of circle 1 to the angular points. Number these rays 1 - 20 clockwise, starting at the top. These numbers will denote the angular points as well.

4. Draw two lines, from angular point nr. 11, to angular points nrs. 3 and 19, respectively.

5. Draw two lines, from angular point nr. 1, to the intersections of rays nrs. 7 and 15 with lines 4.

6. Draw two lines, from angular point nr. 1, to the intersections of rays nrs. 4 and 18 with lines 4.

7. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the intersections of rays nrs. 3 and 19 with lines 5.

8. Draw the connecting line between the lower end-points of lines 5.

9. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the intersections of rays nrs. 9 and 13 with line 8.

10. Construct the inscribed decagon (regular ten-sided polygon) of circle 1, pointing up.

11. Copy lines 5 and 6 nine times, by repeating steps 5 and 6 (and the necessary previous steps) with respect to the other angular points of decagon 10.

12. Construct the circumscribed decagon of circle 1, pointing to the right.

13. Construct the circumscribed circle of decagon 12.

14. Circles 1, 7, 9, and 13, and lines 5, 6, and 11, are used for the final reconstruction.

15. Remove all parts not visible within the formation itself.

16. Colour all areas corresponding to standing...

17. ...or to flattened crop, and finish the reconstruction of the 2016 Willoughby Hedge formation.

18. The final result, matched with the aerial image.
