Reconstruction of the
2017 Fonthill Down formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Copy circle 1 to its righthand intersection with the horizontal centerline.

3. Construct the inscribed hexagon (regular six-sided polygon) of circle 2, pointing to the left.

4. Construct the inscribed hexagon of circle 2, pointing up.

5. Construct a circle (concentric to circle 2), passing through the intersections of hexagons 3 and 4.

6. Construct the inscribed circle of hexagons 3 and 4.

7. Construct the inscribed hexagon of circle 6, pointing to the left.

8. Construct the inscribed circle of hexagon 7.

9. Construct the inscribed equilateral triangle of circle 8, pointing up.

10. Construct the inscribed circle of triangle 9.

11. Copy circle 10 to the center of circle 1.

12. Construct two inscribed hexagons of circle 5, one pointing to the left, one pointing up.

13. Construct a circle (concentric to circle 2), passing through the intersections of hexagons 12.

14. Construct the circumscribed hexagon of circle 5, pointing to the right.

15. Copy circle 10 to the righthand angular point of hexagon 14.

16. Construct the inscribed hexagon of circle 1, pointing to the right.

17. Copy circles 5, 6, 8, and 13, five times, to the other angular points of hexagon 16, as shown.

18. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the center of circle 15.

19. Construct the inscribed hexagon of circle 18, pointing to the right.

20. Copy circle 10 five times, to the other angular points of hexagon 19, as shown.

21. Construct the "two-points" circle (defined by the two end-points of a centerline) between the righthand intersections of circles 5 and 6 with the horizontal centerline.

22. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the center of circle 21. See detail.

23. Construct the inscribed hexagon of circle 22, pointing to the right. See detail.

24. Copy circle 21 five times, to the other angular points of hexagon 23, as shown. See detail.

25. Construct three pairs of parallel lines, tangent to opposite circles 21 and 24, at both sides, as shown. See detail.

26. Circles 5, 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 17, and 20, and lines 25, are used for the final reconstruction.

27. Remove all parts not visible within the formation itself.

28. Colour all areas corresponding to standing...

29. ...or to flattened crop, and finish the reconstruction of the 2017 Fonthill Down formation.

30. The final result, matched with the aerial image.
