Reconstruction of the
2023 Preston Grange formation
1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.
2. Construct the inscribed square of circle 1, pointing up.
3. Construct the inscribed circle of square 2.
4. Construct the inscribed square of circle 3, with sides horizontally and vertically.
5. Construct the inscribed circle of square 4.
6. Construct the inscribed square of circle 5, pointing up.
7. Construct the inscribed circle of square 6.
8. Construct the inscribed square of circle 7, with sides horizontally and vertically.
9. Draw two lines, from the top of square 2 to the upper lefthand and righthand angular points of square 8.
10. Repeat step 9 for the other corresponding angular points of squares 2 and 8.
11. Construct a circle centered at the upper intersection of circle 7 and the vertical centerline, passing through the upper righthand angular point of square 8.
12. Copy circle 11 to the righthand angular point of square 2.
13. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 12 at the righthand side.
14. Copy circle 11 two times, to the intersections of circle 13 and the horizontal centerline.
15. Construct a circle centered at the lefthand intersection of circle 12 and the horizontal centerline, tangent to circle 3 at the righthand side.
16. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 15 at the righthand side.
17. Copy circle 15 eight times, to the angular points of squares 2 and 8.
18. Construct eight lines parallel to lines 9 and 10, tangent to circles 17 at the outer sides, as shown.
19. Circles 3, 14, and 16, and lines 9, 10, and 18, are used for the final reconstruction.
20. Remove all parts not visible within the formation itself.
21. Colour all areas corresponding to standing...
22. ...or to flattened crop, and finish the reconstruction of the 2023 Preston Grange formation.
23. The final result, matched with the aerial image.
